The third instalment of the regency drama will now turn its focus on Colin Bridgerton played by Luke Newton and his relationship with secret gossip columnist aka Lady Whistledown – Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlin. The teaser dropped on Thursday, comes weeks ahead of the official trailer that is set to drop on Valentine’s Day, February 14, in a special live event.
Unlike its predecessors, Penelope and Colin have had a three-season build-up to what is already promising to be one tantalising affair. A first look clip features Penelope and Colin sharing a moment, where the secret writer, gets poetic and seemingly confesses her hidden feelings in a flirty verse, “Your eyes… a most remarkable shade of blue. And yet somehow they shine even brighter when you are kind.”

Another clip sees the young Bridgerton visiting Penelope in the middle of the night, in what appears to be a romantically and emotionally charged scene.
The seconds-long clips did enough to add to the hype and anticipation around the series with fans taking to Twitter to share their ‘wild’ reactions and many asking, “WHY DO WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MAY?”
Season three will also see the return of other fan-favourite characters—including Jonathan Bailey‘s Anthony Bridgerton and Simone Ashley’s Kate Sharma, who in this season may just have a more important role in leading the Bridgerton household.
The official synopsis for season 3 reads: Bridgerton is back for its third season and finds Penelope Featherington (Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly. Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.
Based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of novels, ‘Bridgerton’ is set in the lavish and competitive world of London high society during the Regency period of the early 1800s.
Part 1 of the Bridgerton season 3 will be released on 16th May 2024, and Part 2 will premiere on 13th June.
