The singer hit headlines when a video from his concert in New York City went viral. The clip saw Justin telling the audience how he felt about apologizing. “I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize… to absolutely f*****g nobody,” he said before going on to perform ‘Cry Me a River’, a breakup song about Britney.
His statement came shortly after Britney extended an olive branch and publicly apologised for hurting people she cared about with her memoir, ‘The Woman In Me‘.The 42-year-old wrote, “I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about, I am deeply sorry.”She went on to add, “I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlake’s new song ‘Selfish’. It is soo good and how come every time I see Justin and Jimmy together I laugh so hard ??? Ps ‘Sanctified’ is wow too.”
While fans felt that “Britney should not have to apologise for speaking her truth,” others commended the singer for handling the situation like a “mature” woman.
However, Justin’s latest diss, on the other hand, has put him on the receiving end of angry netizens calling his actions “immature” and some even going as far as calling out his “misogynistic behaviour”.
“Absolutely disgusting that in 2024 and after Britney literally promoted his trashy song, this assh*le Justin Timberlake is shading her,” read a tweet.
Another commented, “just another immature, shady and insecure a** male.”
Another slammed JT in a post that read, “@jtimberlake you’re pathetic, bullying Britney is what you did to build your career, cuz otherwise without her you wouldn’t have one & you still continue to do it.”
In a social media post, singer Bebe Rexha also shared a video of herself playing a Britney track on her player, which fans presumed was the singer’s way of supporting Britney.
Following the public diss, the Princess of Pop took to social media again, in what seemed to be a heated response to Timberlake. “Someone told me someone was talking s-it about me on the streets !!! Do you want to bring it to the court or will you go home crying to your mom like you did last time,” she wrote, adding, “I’m not sorry !!!”
Things reached a fever pitch with Britney’s fans pushing Spear’s old bonus track called ‘Selfish’ up the charts to overshadow Justin’s new single of the same name.
In her memoir, ‘The Woman In Me’, Britney accused Justin of pressuring her into getting an abortion and alleged multiple instances of infidelity on his part. In her book, she revealed her deep emotional connection with the singer, her love for him and her anticipation of building a family together.
Britney wrote, “I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.” She also detailed how she felt portrayed as a “harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy” during their breakup.
Amidst backlash that followed the revelations in the memoir, Timberlake had been inactive on social media platform until two weeks ago. He had wiped his account clean, sparking curiosity among fans. His wife, Jessica Biel, also stayed off social media, only to resume sharing posts of them on her own account during this period.
