Golden Globe-Winning ‘Squid Game’ actor O Yeong-su faces possible one-year prison term in sexual harassment case: Report – Times of India

Prosecutors are seeking a one-year prison sentence for O Yeong-su, the 79-year-old actor from globally acclaimed series ‘Squid Game’, which earned him a prestigious Golden Globe award in 2022. The charges against O date back to 2017, as he stands accused of sexually harassing a woman during his two-month regional performance tour, where it is alleged that he hugged and kissed her against her will, as reported by Yonhap.
The legal proceedings have been unfolding at the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Court, with the prosecution not only advocating for a one-year imprisonment but also pushing for the public disclosure of O’s personal information. Additionally, they have urged the court to impose restrictions on the actor, preventing him from engaging with institutions focused on children and adolescents.
Despite maintaining his innocence throughout the preceding hearings, O finds himself at the center of a highly publicized legal battle that could significantly impact both his personal reputation and professional career. The veteran actor, renowned for his compelling portrayal of an old businessman orchestrating a deadly game in series ‘Squid Game’, expressed profound distress during his final remarks. Yonhap quoted him as stating, “Standing trial for things like this at this age, I am in such pain and agony … I feel my whole life is falling apart”. Meanwhile, the court is scheduled to announce its verdict on O Yeong-su’s case on March 15.
