Throwback: Pooja Bhatt played her grandmother Shirin in Mahesh Bhatt’s Zakhm | – Times of India

Mahesh Bhatt was one of the most prolific directors of his time, directing films like Saranash, Sadak, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Aashiqui. He quit direction after making Zakhm- a semi-autobiographical film based on his parents life.
And he roped in his own daughter Pooja Bhatt to portray the role of his mother Shirin and Kunal Kemmu to play him in the film. Not many are aware but Pooja had initially refused to play the role of her grandmother. She shared that she was terrified to play the role and even suggested to her dad a few other names to play but her father turned her down saying he was asking her to do the role but telling her to do it.
She got a lot of appreciation for the role and she even got to wear her grandmother’s saree and mangal sutra in the film. She also shared that the house that they shot the film in was the exact replica of the house her dad grew up in.
Ajay Devgn who played the older Kunal Kemmu/ Mahesh Bhatt in the film, got a National Award for his performance in the film.
