Aamir Khan made a comeback on-screen after a while with ‘Laal Singh Chaddha‘. It came right after Covid and lockdown period and there were huge expectations attached to it. It was a remake of the Tom Hanks starrer ‘Forrest Gump‘ but unfortunately, it did not prove to be a box office hit. In a recent interview, Kiran Rao admitted that Aamir was largely affected by the failure of the film and the entire family came together to support him. The film starred Kareena Kapoor Khan opposite Aamir.
The ‘Laapataa Ladies’ director said during an interview with Indianexpress.com that as a family, they were all around Aamir and the film’s failure did take a toll on them. That’s what made aamir step back, take a break. Khan announced that he’s going to take a break from movies for a year atleast and not work on anything. Kiran admitted, “He wanted to re-examine his work and his life. For someone who was giving successes at the box office, and been relentlessly working for so long, I think it was the time that made him introspect.”
She also pointed out the reasons that they analysed for the film not clicking. “We have thought about it a lot and Aamir has spoken about it extensively. The pitch of the film was maybe not what people expected after seeing Forrest Gump. The pacing perhaps didn’t quite work and we were coming out of COVID-19 and maybe it was not the right film to bring straight after Covid. I don’t know what it was, the pitch, the pacing, the timing of the release or the hype because the film had been coming for so long, a lot of things affected the film,” she said.
The director also added that since Laal Singh was a remake of an iconic film known worldwide, it could be that it didn’t meet those expectations!
Meanwhile, Kiran has made her directorial comeback after 14 years, with ‘Laapataa Ladies’ releasing today, March 1. Kiran and Aamir had announced their separation in 2021 but the duo continue to remain friends and are like one family! They collaborate professionally, creatively and co-parent their son Azad together.
