In a conversation with DNA India, Imtiaz Ali reflected on the period when Bollywood faced significant skepticism. He recalled hearing numerous times that Bollywood was on the decline. Ali mentioned that upon entering the industry, there were predictions about the demise of theaters due to the advent of VCRs, indicating a similar sentiment about the industry’s future.
Imtiaz also emphasized that despite repeated claims of cinema’s demise, it endured because dreamers like himself continued to watch and create films.

Imtiaz Ali, known for films like ‘Jab We Met,’ ‘Love Aaj Kal,’ ‘Rockstar,’ and ‘Tamasha,’ is releasing his latest project, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila,’ on the OTT platform Netflix instead of in cinemas. When questioned about this decision, he explained, “Even though I envision my films for the big screen, I’ve made ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ more cinematic to suit its OTT release.”
He further explained that when choosing a film to watch on OTT platforms, he tends to select those with rich cinematic qualities. Therefore, he aimed to ensure that ‘Chamkila’ embodied that same essence.
Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead, is slated for release on April 12, 2024.
