Who is the better performer between Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone? Imtiaz Ali takes his pick | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Imtiaz Ali’s 2007 masterpiece, ‘Jab We Met’, continues to be celebrated as one of his most beloved films. Despite its initial release not garnering blockbuster success, it swiftly evolved into a cult classic, hailed as the quintessential romantic comedy of its time in Hindi cinema. Kareena Kapoor‘s portrayal of Geet in the movie has become synonymous with her career, with many considering it her finest performance to date. However, in a recent interview, when Imtiaz faced the dilemma of choosing the superior performer between Kareena in ‘Jab We Met’ and Deepika Padukone in ‘Cocktail’, the director found it challenging to articulate his thoughts.

During a conversation with Connect FM Canada, Imtiaz was posed with the task of selecting the superior film between ‘Jab We Met’ and ‘Cocktail’. Unsurprisingly, he opted for ‘Jab We Met’, the film that he helmed to perfection. ‘Cocktail’ directed by Homi Adajania based on Imtiaz’s script, featured Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan, and Diana Penty. When pressed to pick between Kareena in ‘Jab We Met’ and Deepika in ‘Cocktail’. Imtiaz ultimately sided with Kareena, reasoning, “Very tough but let me say Kareena because I was the director.”

Despite delivering one of her finest performances in Imtiaz Ali’s film, Kareena Kapoor Khan and the director never reunited for another project. While promoting ‘Jaane Jaan’, Kareena expressed how despite her diverse range of roles, she is primarily recognized as Poo (from ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’) and Geet (from ‘Jab We Met’). She also highlighted that these iconic roles often led people to assume that Kareena’s real-life persona mirrored that of her characters. “Everyone thinks Poo and Geet means Bebo,” she remarked during a conversation with Indian Express.

Currently, Imtiaz Ali eagerly anticipates the release of ‘Chamkila’,”the biopic of Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in leading roles, the film is set to premiere on Netflix on April 12th.
