Veteran actress Aruna Irani who has created a niche in Bollywood with her signature style, songs and movies, not to mention vamp roles amidst many more. The actress recently opened up about her love story with her husband, director Kuku Kohli.
During her conversation with Zoom, Aruna Iran shared how she and Kuku Kohli initially hated each other. The veteran star then recalled meeting Kukuji during the filming of ‘Kohram’.At that time, she was involved in several films to sustain her household, although the roles were not particularly satisfying. Despite being busy with her projects in Madras, Kukuji requested her dates for a month. After attempting for a few days, she informed them that she couldn’t commit to the film. This decision didn’t sit well with Kukuji, and he expressed his displeasure. However, they continued working together.
Aruna admitted that even when she didn’t have any ongoing projects but had given her availability, Kukuji would reach out, and she would feel quite annoyed about it.
Elaborating further, Aruna added that Kuku would make her sit all day just to capture one shot, leading to conflicts between them. Aruna revealed how she had a strong dislike for Kuku, and he also had his grievances with her. However, things gradually changed, and he began to show a softer side, leading to a friendship between them. He started accommodating her schedule, and eventually, their relationship evolved into love.
When asked why she chose to keep the marriage a secret and also why they decided not to have kids, Aruna explained that she kept their marriage a secret because he was already married. She expressed confusion about rumours suggesting she wasn’t aware of his first marriage, as his wife and children would visit the sets, and she was fully informed about his marital status.
Despite the challenges, they decided to get married, even though it was a difficult choice. She acknowledged that it wasn’t the right decision for them to not have children but mentioned that he stood by her and fought against societal pressures to marry her.
