Kunal Kemmu, known for his roles in films like Kalyug, Go Goa Gone, Lootcase, and the Golmaal series, recently made his directorial debut with Madgaon Express. Describing it as a film akin to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara for the common man, he pitched the idea to producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, who decided to back the project.
Despite a modest start, Madgaon Express garnered Rs 13.5 crore in its debut week, followed by Rs 5.75 crore and Rs 5.4 crore in the second and third weeks, respectively.Despite facing competition from big Eid releases like Maidaan and Bade Miyan Chote Miya, the film has crossed the Rs 27 crore mark in its overall collection. Initially projected to conclude its box office run with around Rs 25 crore, Madgaon Express has exceeded expectations and emerged as a major success for all involved, defying trade predictions.
On Friday, Madgaon Express earned Rs 35 lakhs, on Saturday it earned Rs 75 lakhs and on Sunday the film added Rs 85 lakhs. Despite a decent weekend run, the film saw a sharp decline in its numbers to just collect Rs 19 lakhs on Monday, but the film saw a small spike in its Tuesday collection to add Rs 24 lakhs to its kitty, thus taking the film beyond Rs 27 crore mark. The total collection of Madgaon Express now stands at Rs 27.04 crore. The trade has now set a new expectation from the film, a lifetime business of Rs 30 crore. Madgaon Express should see a small spike in today’s collection as a major part of the country has a holiday on occasion of Ram Navami and the weekend is just a day day.
Madgaon Express stars Pratik Gandhi, Divyendu Sharma, Avinash Tiwary and Nora Fatehi in lead roles.
