Going by the past few days, one can notice that South industry has been making inroads in Hindi cinema in a big way. The North India theatrical rights for 4 films like Pushpa 2, Kalki 2898 AD, Indian 2 and Game Changer have been bought for more than Rs 400 crore. Also, in the past few years, many films from the South have crossed the Rs 100 and Rs 200 crore landmarks but there has hardly been any Hindi film which has been able to cross that mark down south with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan being the one of the exceptions. The Atlee directorial earned Rs 30 crore in Tamil and about Rs 28 crore in Telugu and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal making about Rs 46 crore in Telugu.
There was huge hope that Bade Miyan Chote Miyan would also join the league. The film had Prithviraj playing the main negative lead opposite two huge stars like Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. But such was not the case, the film which released on the occasion of Eid, managed to cross Rs 50 crore mark only on the 8th day of its theatrical run.
But the response in the southern languages has been even more drastic, at the end of the 8th day, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has managed to earn only Rs 65 lakhs from the four southern languages it was released in. The film earned Rs 35 lakh in Tamil and Rs 28 lakh in Telugu and the rest coming from (Mention name of languages). One can safely assume that it will still take a while before Hindi stars can make an impact down South. In the past few months Prithviraj has delivered some amazing box office results, be it Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire with over Rs 400 crore collection or Aadujeevitham- The Goat Life with Rs 76 crore collection. Post Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Prithviraj has a couple of more Hindi films lined up, one of which is Sarzameen with Saif Ali Khan’s son Ibrahim and Kajol.
