Aamir Khan recently graced the set of Kapil Sharma‘s popular show, ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’. Amidst the laughter and banter, the episode took an intriguing turn as Aamir revealed the genesis of a label that has long been synonymous with his name – ‘perfectionist’.
Reflecting on his journey in the cinema, Aamir reminisced about the early days when he was just finding his footing in the industry.Recounting a memorable encounter that would later become a cornerstone of his personality, he revealed, “This label that I have been given of being a ‘perfectionist,’ only one person is responsible for it”. Inquisitive glances turned towards him as Kapil Sharma, the affable host, probed further, “Who?” To which Aamir promptly responded, “Shabana Azmi“.

Taking the audience on a trip down memory lane, Aamir recounted a scene from his early days in cinema while filming ‘Dil’, under the direction of Indra Kumar and the cinematography of the renowned Baba Azmi. “When I was new to cinema”, he began, “I was shooting the film Dil, Indra Kumar was the director and Baba Azmi was the cameraman. Baba Azmi was the top cameraman, we often used to go to his house. One day we were engrossed in a deep discussion, maybe about films and Shabana ji brought tea for us and she asked, ‘Aamir, how much sugar will you take?'”

Yet, consumed by the discussion, Aamir found himself momentarily perplexed by the seemingly simple query. “I was so engrossed in the discussion, I didn’t realize what she was asking”, he confessed. “I turned around and looked at her, it took me five seconds to process the question. I asked, ‘How big is the glass?’ She showed me the cup. I was still engrossed in that discussion. Then I asked how big is the spoon, she showed me the spoon and then I said, ‘One spoon’”. “She narrated that story everywhere”, Aamir chuckled. “If you ask him, ‘How much sugar?'”, Shabana would jest, “he will ask you the size of cup and spoon”.
