In an interview with Galatta India, Manoj mentioned the camaraderie among members of a theatre group when it came to smoking. He described how sharing cigarettes was common practice as individuals couldn’t afford to smoke alone.If someone had a cigarette, they would share it with multiple people.
Manoj further explained that even if someone had the means to purchase a pack or a single cigarette, they wouldn’t smoke it alone due to the tradition of sharing. Recounting their time in Barry John’s theatre group, Manoj disclosed that while he remained associated for a few years, Shah Rukh Khan was only part of it for a few months before venturing to Mumbai to kickstart his Bollywood journey. Manoj himself made the move to Mumbai after working on Shekhar Kapur‘s ‘Bandit Queen.’

In an earlier interview with Bollywood Bubble, Manoj recalled that SRK was the one who introduced him to a discotheque for the first time. He reminisced about their youthful days, mentioning that Shah Rukh was known for driving a red Maruti Van and fondly remembered their outing at the Taj discotheque in Delhi. Manoj also noted that Shah Rukh had been associated with Barry John’s group for a brief period.
