‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Concept Artist claims work was STOLEN by ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ makers amidst plagiarism allegations | – Times of India

With just days to go until the release of ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘, the film has faced another plagiarism allegation. This time around, concept artist Oliver Beck has accused the makers of stealing his artwork created for the animated series ‘Star Trek: Prodigy.’
Beck, in a tweet, posted images of his original work alongside frames from the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ trailer.“Sad to see that some of the work I did for Star Trek: Prodigy got stolen by Vyjayanthi Movies in their trailer,” Beck wrote. He elaborated further, “This is the matte painting I did for Star Trek under the direction of Ben Hibon and Alessandro Taini and then as it appears in the trailer.”

The post was put out around the same time, South Korean artist Sung Choi, known for his collaborations with major studios such as Marvel, Warner Brothers, Netflix Animation, and Disney, also accused the makers of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ of plagiarism. Choi took to Instagram to share a side-by-side comparison of a frame from the film’s trailer and his own artwork published a decade ago.

In his post, Choi stated, “Unauthorized use of the artwork is a bad practice. This makes me question doing art in this lawless environment. @Kalki2898AD @VyjayanthiFilms #kalki2898ad.”
Interestingly, Choi seems to have taken down his post after his allegations went viral online.

The allegations from Beck and Choi have sparked significant backlash on social media, with numerous fans and fellow artists rallying in support. While many have expressed their disappointment and called out Vyjayanthi Movies for the apparent copying Choi’s work, others have taken to the comments section on Beck’s post to say, “This doesn’t even look similar or stolen bruhh the only thing which looks similar is the color palette.”

Another said, “this is not copied, but the illustration is inspired from this work, but for Sung Choi yes its copied, these claims are only to be seen in the initial 3-4 sec clip in the starting of clip, rest animation may look similar to dune because DNEG,Paul Lambert, the vfx animator is same.”
Still another said, “How the is this similar brh? Am I blind?”
The makers of ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ Vyjayanthi Movies, have yet to respond to these serious accusations.
The film, which has generated significant buzz for its futuristic storyline and high-profile cast, now faces scrutiny over its artistic integrity.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani in key roles. It is scheduled for theatrical release on June 27.
