Vikrant Massey calls for systemic change after justice Hema Committee Report: We need to address these issues on a much wider scale – Times of India

Actor Vikrant Massey recently spoke to the media about the exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry, as highlighted by the Justice Hema Committee report.
In an interview with The Hindu, Massey expressed his concerns about gender inequality and the broader safety challenges faced by women in various professional environments.
While acknowledging the significance of the report’s findings, he emphasized that these issues are not limited to the Malayalam film industry alone.”The safety concerns for women go beyond film sets. What the Hema Committee uncovered is crucial, but we need to address these issues on a much wider scale,” he stated.
Reflecting on the stark differences in security between men and women, the ’12th Fail’ actor admitted, “I feel ashamed knowing that I am far more secure than women. Unfortunately, many women simply aren’t safe, and that’s something we need to collectively address. We need to start by examining the rot within ourselves and our society.”
Massey further commented on the need for severe punishment for heinous crimes like rape, particularly when minors are involved. He suggested that capital punishment might be an appropriate measure in certain cases and emphasized the importance of swift justice through fast-tracked processes. However, he also stressed the need to consider different perspectives, especially those of human rights advocates, to maintain a balanced approach on the path to justice.
