Shabana Azmi reveals not having kids with Javed Akhtar was ‘tough’ for her to accept | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

As we all know, Javed Akhtar has two children from his first marriage, while Akhtar and Shabana Azmi have not had kids together. In a recent interview, Shabana recalled the difficulties of accepting this aspect of her life. She mentioned that a conversation with her mother, Shaukat Kaifi, played a significant role in helping her change her perspective on motherhood and life.
In a conversation with The Indian Express, Shabana said that it’s tough coming to terms with the fact that someone can’t bear children.Society makes that particular lady feel incomplete. Someone has to work hard to pull her out of that. But the ultimate sense of self, must come from work. Women often measure self-worth from their relationships – how they hold up as a wife, mother, daughter. For a man that’s not the criterion of success – rather it’s his career, his work that gives him the greatest satisfaction. She believes that should apply to all genders.
The actress further added that when she asked her mother, who was an excellent housekeeper, and wife. What was the most fulfilling of all her roles, her answer left Shabana surprised. Her mother said her work and appreciation for it gave her primary satisfaction. Women have to overcome patriarchal expectations. It doesn’t mean turning up the nose to duty but making it more inclusive so that the partner also respects it.
Shabana Azmi may not have children of her own, but she has a close motherly bond with Javed Akhtar’s children, Farhan and Zoya Akhtar. They frequently enjoy holidays together, and the siblings, who are both successful directors, often attend parties with her.
