Adar Gandelsman (Hebrew: אדר גנדלסמן; born 5 December 1997) is an Israeli model and beauty pageant titleholder. She was the first runner-up at Miss Israel 2017, receiving the title of Miss Universe Israel, and competed at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant.
Gandelsman is from Ashkelon, Israel, to a Ashkenazi Jewish family from Brazil. As of May 2017, she serves as a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. After coming in second place at Miss Israel 2017, Gandelsman was crowned Miss Universe Israel 2017. Adar succeeds Miss Universe Israel 2016 Yam Kaspers Anshel and represented Israel at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant.Adar competed at Miss Universe 2017 pageant in Las Vegas but did not place. At the pageant, Gandelsman took a selfie with Sarah Idan, Miss Universe Iraq that year.
She is not the type of poster. She is a girl of deeds. Shortly after winning the Israel Girl title for 2018, while preparing for the Miss Universe competition in Las Vegas, she has already begun promoting a peace process between Israel and Iraq. The selfie she made there with Sarah Idan, Miss Iraq, admittedly put the latter’s family in trouble in her country, but broke the internet, attracted international media attention and later turned the two into true friends.
Beauty queens Sarah Idan and Adar Gandelsman are representing their respective countries at the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, but Iraq’s Idan probably wasn’t betting on the backlash to her Instagram post.More than 3,600 “likes” greeted their picture, but it also triggered an avalanche of comments, some positive and others negative in a country.
In a response, 27-year-old Idan said Gandelsman told her “she hopes that one day there will be peace between the two religions (Judaism and Islam) and that her children will not have to do military service”.”She asked for a photo and I agreed, saying that I too hoped for peace and wanted to help pass on the message,” added Idan, who said she had served with both the US and Iraqi armies.”This picture doesn’t mean I support the Israeli government or its policies towards Arab countries. I apologise to everyone who saw it as an insult to the Palestinian cause. This was not its purpose.”
