Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s debut OTT series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, received much acclaim for its captivating narrative, lavish sets, exquisite jewelry, and majestic costumes. Shrima Rai, sister-in-law of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has been swept up in the allure of Heeramandi and she recreated its splendor on social media.
In a series of pictures shared on Instagram, Shrima Rai stunned in a powder pink lehenga and exquisite jewellery. She posed against an enticing backdrop and captioned the pictures as, “WHAT would you name my character? I personally loved Heeramandi on Netflix and I am looking forward to the next season. My favourite character was Bibbojaan by @aditiraohydari & ufff the Queen @m_koirala.”
Set in pre-partition India, Heeramandi featured a stellar ensemble cast of Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Shaikh. The narrative centered on the lives of courtesans, showcasing their significant power and influence during India’s struggle for freedom.
Weeks after the first season released, the makers confirmed a sequel. Confirming the same, SLB told Variety, “In Heeramandi 2, the women now come from Lahore to the film world. They leave Lahore after the partition and most of them settle in the Mumbai film industry or Kolkata film industry. So that journey in the bazaar remains the same. They still have to dance and sing, but this time for the producers and not for the nawabs.”
