Although he was a comedian who was always very funny, actor Robin Williams brought tears to the audience’s eyes with his sentimental spirit and serious performances.
In some of his movies and comedy appearances, Williams seemed to be on a quest to help others understand the human condition. He imparted pearls of wisdom that survived him.

Robin Williams Appeared as the American Flag
In addition to being moving, Williams’ skit was funny. He pretended to be Old Glory while wearing a flag shirt.
“I’m the one that they’re singing about,” he says in the skit.
He said he stayed young by “waving.” And added, “It’s not very chic to put out the flag anymore.” He added, “Don’t look at it as saluting me, look at it like saluting yourself. I’m just a flag, a symbol. You’re the people. If I may say so from here, long may you wave.”
Williams concluded the appearance with a salute.
Robin Williams Worked With Patients in ‘Awakenings’
Robin Williams played a doctor working in a psychiatric center in the movie “Awakenings.”
He met patients who were locked in their bodies. “Your patients, doctor, haven’t moved,” in years, he was told.
“What I believe, what I know, is that these people are alive inside,” Williams insisted in one emotional scene.
“How do you know that doctor?”
“I know it.”
He then fought to change their treatment regimen and encountered a miracle. A patient, played by Robert DeNiro, woke up.
Robin Williams Made Patients Laugh as ‘Patch Adams’
In “Patch Adams,” Williams played a medical student who uses humor and a clown nose to help patients heal. The central message of the movie is that doctors should focus more on humanity.
“We have to learn how to treat the patient not just the disease,” he said.
He put a clown’s nose on to make terminally ill patients laugh and bonded with patients through humor.
Williams said the patients were forgetting about the pain, and there wasn’t a dry eye when he said that.
Robin Williams Spoke Openly About His Struggles With Addiction & Depression
In an interview, Williams talked candidly about addiction and how it “lays in wait.”
“The next thing you know, it’s just not okay.”
He said he was told “you need help,” and that got through to him. He admitted that he needed help.
The heartwrenching interview resurfaced after Williams took his own life.
Robin Williams Gave a Speech to Matt Damon’s Character in ‘Good Will Hunting’
Williams bonded with Matt Damon’s character in “Good Will Hunting.”
“You’re just a kid. You don’t have the faintest idea what you’re talking about. You’ve never been out of Boston,” he said.
“I bet you can’t tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel,” he told Damon’s character.
If asked about women, Williams said, “You can’t tell me what it feels like to wake up next to a woman and feel truly happy. You’re a tough kid.”
And so on. He talked about love and war. And he talked about losing a loved one to cancer. “You don’t know about real loss, because that only occurs when you love somebody more than you love yourself,” he said.
