Matilda Ledger is the 19-year-old daughter of actress Michelle Williams and the late Heath Ledger. On January 12, paparazzi snapped photos of the teen walking around Brooklyn, New York, with a pal. This is one of only a handful of times that Matilda has been seen in public.
Williams and Ledger went their separate ways when Matilda was just 2-years-old. Ledger died of a drug overdose just months after the split.
In the years that followed, Williams did her best to shield Matilda from the public eye — and from the ever-present paparazzi.
“That feeling of being watched goes very, very deep because it cuts you off from living your life,” Williams told The Guardian in 2023.
“And for a while it felt like such an impediment to being natural and unguarded that my daughter and I moved outside of the city. We lived in the country because I felt more capable of living an unobserved life there. The particles shift under observation. I certainly felt that when we were living in Brooklyn,” she added.
People Think Matilda Ledger Is the Perfect Mix of Her Parents
Matilda was dressed casually in a pair of jeans and a green puffer coat as she braved the chilly temps in New York. After viewing the photos, many people can’t believe how much Matilda looks like both of her parents. Page Six shared the pictures of the teen on Instagram and dozens of comments poured in.
“Daddy’s face with mama’s smile,” one person wrote.
“What a doll! She looks like a perfect mix of her mama and daddy. So sweet,” someone else said.
“How is she 19 now?? Weren’t she just a baby?? Where did time go???” a third comment read.
“Beautiful young lady. She looks like both her parents. First pic she favors her Mom. But the last one, she’s his twin,” another Instagram user added.
Michelle Williams Explained How She Settled on the Matilda
Williams previously shared that she was inspired by Roald Dahl’s book when it came to naming her first-born.
“I came up with it on the subway one day. It just fell from the sky and into my head. And I love, love the Roald Dahl book ‘Matilda.’ I didn’t think about it at the time, but then afterwards, I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s the girl I want: reads lots of books and makes things move with her eyes.’ That’ll be my daughter, for sure,” she told USA Today, according to People magazine.
Matilda, born in 2005, is the only daughter of the former couple. Williams has two other children with her husband, director Thomas Kail.
