Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to play the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, January 26. Just two days before the big game, however, Mahomes’ mom shared some personal news.
“My father has entered hospice and I’m at a loss for words,” Randi Mahomes, posted on her Instagram Stories on January 24. She also posted Colossians 3:20, which reads “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”
Randi Mahomes also shared a photo of her with her dad, Randy. Patrick Mahomes has been active on social media ahead of Sunday’s big game, but he had not posted about his grandfather at the time of this writing.
Patrick Mahomes’ Grandfather Fell Ill in September
While Randi Mahomes hasn’t shared details about what her father may be suffering from, she did share that he was hospitalized in September 2024.
“Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well,” she posted on X.
Dozens of fans shared positive messages for the Mahomes family at the time.
“Prayers for your Daddy, Randy! May God’s strength and grace be with him,” one person wrote.
“Prayers for u and your Dad,” someone else said.
“Sending love and prayers to your Daddy and your family Randi,” a third comment read.
“God has blessed us with the wondrous Power of Prayer! May the faithful’s prayers heal your daddy,” another X user added.

Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, welcomed their third child on January 12. The timing for the baby’s arrival was perfect — and planned. Golden Raye was born on a Kansas City bye week.
On January 13, Brittany announced the baby’s arrival in a joint Instagram post with her husband. She shared a black-and-white photo of Golden’s feet. A wooden name placard featuring the baby’s name was blurred in the background.
Brittany and Patrick Mahomes are also parents to daughter, Sterling, and son, Bronze.
Brittany Mahomes attended the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Houston Texans on January 18, one week after she gave birth.
“On to the next,” she captioned a photo of herself standing on the sidelines after the Chiefs’ big win. Brittany Mahomes will undoubtedly be attending the AFC Championship game on January 26 — though Patrick Mahomes’ mom may or may not be in attendance, given what’s going on with her father.
