After about a year of their media- heavy relationship, Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan are no longer the “it couple” of 2024.
Fans were surprised when news broke of their split after months of speculation about their relationship. According to People, the pop star and Oscar-nominated actor parted ways amicably but have opted to remain private about the details behind the split.
Carpenter, known for her chart-topping music career, and Keoghan, celebrated for roles in films like “Saltburn,” first sparked dating rumors in late 2023. The couple made headlines in March 2024 when they were spotted together at the 2024 Oscars afterparty, where their chemistry was evident.
From Carpenter detailing her relationship in songs like “Bed Chem” on her newest album to Keoghan savagely playing himself in the music video of “Please Please Please,”, the makings of this relationship have been very public.
It started off with a scandal, Keoghan being known as the man who left his newborn baby for the singer-songwriter. After releasing multiple statements to the press, Keoghan assured fans that he was still in his child’s life and was never unfaithful.
Carpenter fans are blaming his “cheating” persona for their breakup, accusing him of being unfaithful during their relationship. According to E News, Keoghan issued a statement in December 2024 on Instagram denying the accusations and asking for some graciousness on the matter. Page Six broke the news that he deactivated his Instagram shortly after. Carpenter hasn’t made any comments and instead, seems to be thriving post breakup. With her newest Netflix special “A Nonsense Christmas” and completing the final leg of her tour, Keoghan is the last thing to get her down.

While neither Carpenter nor Keoghan have addressed the breakup publicly, fans have taken to social media to share their reactions. The announcement stirred mixed emotions, with many disappointed over the news and others sending supportive messages to both stars.
“Wishing Sabrina and Barry the best. Breakups are hard, even in the spotlight,” one fan tweeted. Another wrote, “They seemed so cute together, but it’s understandable with their schedules.”
Some fans also speculated about the impact of the breakup on Carpenter’s upcoming music. Known for channeling personal experiences into her lyrics, fans anticipate that her next album might touch on themes of heartbreak or self-discovery, much like her previous work.
Moving Forward
Though their romantic relationship has ended, Carpenter and Keoghan’s careers continue to thrive. Carpenter’s “Short and Sweet” album remains a commercial success, while Keoghan’s rise in Hollywood solidifies his status as one of the industry’s most promising talents.
