Taylor Swift Booed at Super Bowl (and Other Surprises)

Taylor Swift knows by now, haters gonna hate. So maybe it’s no surprise that she was able to shake it off when some fans at the Super Bowl booed when Swift appeared on the JumboTron.

The NFL posted a video on Instagram with the caption “@taylorswift’s reaction 😂” The video shows Swift’s eyes get wide after her image is beamed onto the Jumbotron at the Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans, and then some in the crowd begin to boo.

Swift has been in New Orleans supporting boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who plays tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.

After getting wide-eyed, the singer turned to her pal, rapper Ice Spice, and longtime friend Ashley Avignone for moral support.

Moments later, one of the singer’s friends, tennis player Serena Williams posted a message on X telling Swift not to worry about the haters. “I love you @taylorswift 13 don’t listen to those boos!!!” Williams wrote in her post.

Surprise Performances at Super Bowl Don’t Include Taylor Swift

While Swifties flooded social media with hopes and speculation that Swift would make a surprise appearance in Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show, those wishes did not come true.

But that doesn’t mean there were no surprises.

Tom Brady, Michael Strahan and Lady Gaga appeared in a pre-game tribute to the Big Easy that began with Strahan saying, “Here on Bourbon Street, always the heart and soul of New Orleans, this year began with a terror attack that tried to shatter it’s spirit. But the resilience of New Orleans is matched by the resolve of our country.”

Wearing a Los Angeles Fire Department t-shirt, legendary quarterback Tom Brady then says, “The resilience of New Orleans is matched by the resolve of our country. When tragedy strikes, we don’t break, we come together. We rise above and never let evil win.”

The pair then walk over to a grand piano in the middle of Bourbon Street, where Lady Gaga starts to play and sing her 2022 Oscar-nominated song, “Hold My Hand.”

Gaga’s appearance at the Super Bowl had not been previously announced and was a surprise to fans.

Super Bowl Offered Plenty of Pre-Game Surprises

And Gaga’s performance on Bourbon Street was only the beginning of the star-studded night.

During the pregame entertainment, Jon Batiste performed the National Anthem and Ledisi sang “Lift Every Voice and Sing” alongside 125 New Orleans high school students.

The pregame also featured Louisiana native Harry Connick Jr. with New Orleans jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard, the Soul Rebels and the Original Pinettes.

And Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle put a New Orleans jazz spin on “America the Beautiful.”

Kendrick Lamar Offers Halftime Surprises

Fresh off five Grammy wins, rapper Kendrick Lamar had plenty of surprises up his sleeve for his Super Bowl halftime performance.

Actor Samuel L. Jackson took on the role of Uncle Sam for the show.

Tennis great Serena Williams came to the stage to show off some dance moves.

And SZA joined Lamar for two songs they collaborated on, including their hit “All the Stars” from the Black Panther Soundtrack.

Social media quickly blew up with accolades for the performance.

On X, Deion Sanders posted “@kendricklamar God bless u my brother! That’s the way to do YOU! We are Proud of u man. You represented us WELL!”

While ESPN put up “A HALL-OF-FAME PERFORMANCE BY KING KENDRICK. THE KID FROM COMPTON PUT ON AT THE SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW.”
