Fox has geared up for a new reality series that will challenge players in ways they have never been before. “Extracted” takes players far out of their comfort zone in more ways than one, with both endurance based tasks and emotional elements. Forcing its contestants to sacrifice and trust at the same time, the series isn’t like “Survivor” or “The Amazing Race”, where contestants control their own fate. Instead, the power of when to leave and how far to go is put into the hands of someone else– leading to an epic struggle for the ultimate prize.
How the Competition Works
The show places 12 contestants with no survivalist training whatsoever into the Canadian wilderness and makes them battle it out for $250,000. These players will face a continuous threat of wild animals, the most extreme weather conditions, and a very rough landscape. The twist: their family members will be stationed in a headquarters nearby watching from a live feed 24/7.
And similar to the sponsors in “The Hunger Games” the family can choose to send “essential lifelines and resources to their competitors in the wild, to help them endure the harsh conditions they are faced with,” per People. These family members will also have all the power–to extract their player with the press of a button–but if they do, their whole family is eliminated from the game.
“Extracted” is a series that blends the survival aspects of “Alone” with the high-stakes drama of “Big Brother.” The show isn’t just about surviving, but also about the mind games and emotional decisiveness of letting someone else choose what happens to you.
Which families will push their player to the edge just for a chance at the prize money? Will a guilty conscience force a family to extract their player too early? Will there be alliances that form within the contestants or their families? These families must decide if the risk is worth the reward as the suspense amps up to unbelievable heights.
With everything being so unpredictable, “Extracted” is setting itself up to be a must-watch television for all reality fans. The new series premiered February 10, 2025 on Fox.
