‘I Come Back as a Fairy Godmother,’ Matthew Lillard Jokes About ‘Scream 7’ Return

Three decades after starring as Stu Macher, one of the Ghostface killers who terrorized Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, and Rose McGowan, Matthew Lillard is back for “Scream 7.” His giddiness at Megacon Orlando’s “Scream” panel makes it obvious that no one is as excited about this news as he is.

Lillard Sent Fans Into a Tizzy with a Stu-like Instagram Post

On January 30, Lillard posted an Instagram video featuring someone scrawling out one of Stu Macher’s most famous lines: “My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!!” The comments took off, with fans quoting more Stu lines and hoping it meant Lillard was coming back to the franchise. A week later, Lillard eagerly confirmed the news that he would appear in “Scream 7.”

To kick off the “Scream” panel at Megacon Orlando, Moderator Heather “Kid Cadet” Reicher asked Lillard if he was returning for “Scream 7.” in Kid Cadet’s Instagram video we see Lillard feign surprise before he turns to the audience and asks excitedly, “You guys, you want to hear everything?”

After teasing that he was coming back as a fairy godmother and that “it’s gonna slay,” he shared his disbelief that he could finally answer the question. “It’s funny, I’ve been asked literally a thousand times a day since the first movie ended if I’m coming back,” he said. “I’m happy to report I am.”

‘Scream 7’ Bringing Back Beloved ‘Scream’ Stars Along with New Faces

According to Deadline, Lillard will join fellow “Scream” veterans Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, along with Scott Foley, who played Ghostface in “Scream 3.” Franchise creator and screenwriter Kevin Williamson will also take the helm as the director for the first time. Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding from 2022’s “Scream” and “Scream VI” are also set to return.

There are many questions as to where Lillard and Foley will fit into the film, as both their characters are supposed to be dead. Gooding, a fan of Lillard’s work in “Scooby-Doo” and “Thirteen Ghosts,” doesn’t think anyone will be able to predict the impact Lillard and Foley will have in the film, but guarantees it’ll be worth it. “I cannot wait for people to see what they’re cooking, so to speak, with Matthew [Lillard] and Scott [Foley], because it’s something special,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

Newcomers to the horror film franchise include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, and Mckenna Grace, who hasn’t been able to contain her excitement at being added to the cast of her favorite horror movie. “Scream has been a default go to movie for as long as I can remember, when I was sick, sad, bored, my pick for movie night…,” Mckenna wrote on Instagram. “Now I’m quite unsuccessfully trying to play it cool while joining the cast of one of my all time favorite horror franchises. It’s an honor and I’m so SO excited.”
