Netflix hit reality TV gold in 2020 when it introduced the world to its latest dating show, “Love is Blind“. The concept is that a group of people get to know each other sight unseen in pods separated by a screen. The end goal is to leave the pods engaged, where the newly engaged couples will then honeymoon and live together before the wedding day when they either decide to get married or not. Netflix created its own lane, making itself stand out from other dating shows such as “The Bachelor“, “90 Day Fiancé“, and “Married at First Sight“. The idea is that you can get to know someone on a deeper level and fall in love with them without actually seeing how they look physically. Scary stuff for the masses, which got audiences hooked. America quickly became hooked on the reveal portion of the show, and how the couples reacted after seeing each other for the first time. Talk about sticker shock. That alone is why viewers have remained committed to watching these couples. The drama of “Will they?” make it or “Won’t they?” keeps us tuned in. Whether it’s a train wreck or not, it doesn’t matter!
From Pods to Proposals: The Secret Sauce Behind the Obsession
Everybody gets to be a relationship guru from the comfort of their home. A part of the appeal is that viewers can “read” and speculate on the true intentions and actions behind some of the couples. With social media influencers being such a huge part of the culture today, it seems everyone is vying for attention, no matter the platform. Who is here for love? Who is here for fame? Is now part of the draw when watching these reality shows. Of course, there are always one or two couples that America has fallen in love with and hope that they make it. Fan favorites have been Lauren and Cameron from “Love is Blind” Season 1, along with Brett and Tiffany from Season 4. The underlying element of hope that we see someone find their person continues to add to the addictive nature of this hit show. Watching strangers share moments of vulnerability with each other through a wall makes “Love is Blind” the ultimate binge worthy show.
The Drama, The Chaos, The Love — Why We Can’t Look Away
There is no such thing as reality TV without drama! “Love is Blind” has continued to have its fair share of shocking moments, scandals, and revelations. Last season’s most talked about couple, Ashley and Tyler, became the topic of discussion on most social media platforms when it was discovered that he had three children with his best friend. The receipts continued to pile up when the best friend exposed Tyler on her social media platforms. Viewers were shocked to find out later that Ashley knew about Tyler’s children yet still chose to stay with him. However, last month E! News reported that the two are no longer together. “Love is Blind” has mastered the reality TV formula with equal parts: love, drama, and chaos. Viewers can continue to tune in to the latest season just released Friday, February 14.
