If you are staying in this Valentine’s Day, there’s a decent chance that you’re planning on curling up on the couch and watching something romantic. However, you may feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of romantic movies available on streaming services. To make your Valentine’s Day movie night a little less stressful, here’s a list of some movies with plenty of romance available on Netflix.
The Age of Adaline
In this 2015 film, Blake Lively plays the immortal Adaline Bowman. Throughout her incredible life, she falls deeply in love with William Jones (Anthony Ingruber) and much later his grandson, Ellis Jones (Michiel Huisman). Adaline’s dynamic with her very much moral daughter, Flemming Prescott (Ellen Burstyn), is also extremely poignant to watch.
In a 2015 interview with ScreenSlam, Lively explained that her character and Ellis have an instant connection because they were both “old souls.”
Definitely, Maybe
This 2008 comedy consists of Ryan Reynold’s character, Will Hayes, telling his young daughter, Maya (Abigail Breslin) the stories of his past serious relationships.
Always Be My Maybe
If you love films about friends slowly realizing they have feelings for each other, “Always Be My Maybe” is just for you! While some of the moments between celebrity chef Sasha Tran (Ali Wong) and her childhood best friend Marcus Kim (Randall Kim) are a little cringe-y, the payoff is worth it. Another bonus is that Keanu Reeves has a delightful cameo as himself in this 2019 romcom, which was written by Wong, Park, and Michael Golamco.
In a 2019 interview with Collider, Wong shared why she and her co-writers included Reeves in the script.
“We thought about in that story point when Marcus finally decides to tell Sasha, ‘I have feelings for you,’ we thought ‘Okay, Sasha’s dating someone, who would be Marcus’ worst nightmare?’ And we knew we wanted an Asian American icon, who could also be funny, and the only person who fits all those parameters is Keanu Reeves,” said Wong to the publication.
An Affair to Remember
Fans of classic movies will likely enjoy this complicated 1957 Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr romance.
Set It Up
In the 2018 romantic comedy, “Set It Up,” extremely stressed-out assistants, Charlie Young (Glen Powell) and Harper Moore (Zoey Deutch), who are struggling with their personal lives, join forces to keep their respective employers (Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs) occupied. As they try to ensure their bosses fall in love, they realize they may have feelings for each other, despite their constant bickering.
Deutch and Powell’s on-screen chemistry was so good that some fans were convinced they were dating in real life. However, the actors said they would never be romantically involved in a 2018 interview with People magazine.
Anyone but You
Enjoyers of “Set It Up” will also probably like the 2023 film “Anyone But You.” Not only does this movie also star Powell, but its will-they-won’t-they couple Beatrice (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben share Harper and Charlie’s slightly antagonistic dynamic.
Wedding Season
This 2022 film focuses on Asha (Pallavi Sharda) feigning a romance with Ravi (Suraj Sharma) to keep their families happy. However, some real feelings start to develop.
The Wedding Planner
Granted the scenario that plays out in “The Wedding Planner” is an absolute nightmare for Bridgette Wilson’s character, Fran Donolly. However, this Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey film is an early 2000s classic.
Maid in Manhattan
Speaking of JLo, she shows off more of her romcom acting chops in the 2002 film, “Maid in Manhattan,” which also stars Ralph Fiennes.
13 Going on 30
Keeping with the early 2000s theme, “13 Going on 30” focuses on Jenna Rink (Jennifer Garner) getting a glimpse into her future. Unhappy that she grew up to be unkind and working at a failing publication, Jenna decides to better her situation with the help of her former best friend, Matty (Mark Ruffalo).
Love Actually
While this is technically a Christmas film, nothing is stopping you from watching this 2003 Richard Curtis classic any time you want!
Notting Hill
This Richard Curtis film is a tale as old as time — a famous actress (Julia Roberts) falls in love with a local bookstore owner (Hugh Grant). Even if you aren’t necessarily in the mood for romance, you’ll likely appreciate the sweet dynamic between Grant’s character William’s eccentric, but very loving friend group.
In an interview with TODAY around the time of the film’s 1999 release, Roberts shared that she was initially not interested in the movie when it was pitched to her. She said, however, that she agreed to sign on because she was impressed with its script.
Two Weeks Notice
Hugh Grant is also equally charming and awkward in “Two Weeks Notice,” which co-stars Sandra Bullock. Granted, Grant’s “Two Weeks Notice” character, George Wade, is much more of a problem than his “Notting Hills” counterpart.
About Time
“About Time” is arguably Richard Curtis’ most poignant film. Do yourself a favor and get your tissues out before the movie’s third act. While undeniably a romance, the most beautiful part of this time-travel film may be the relationship between Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) and his lovable father (Bill Nighy).
Irreplaceable You
If you want to watch another sad romance after “About Time,” consider putting on “Irreplaceable You.”
Love Again
“Love Again,” which stars Priyanka Chopra, is a film that explores grief and love. Needless to say, it’s another tear-jerker. Celine Dion fans will also be delighted by her several scenes in the film.
In a joint 2023 interview on “Good Morning America,” Chopra and her on-screen love interest, Sam Heughan, said they adored working with Dion during the production of the film.
“She’s such an icon isn’t she,” said Heughan during the interview.
To All The Boys I’ve Ever Loved
The “To All The Boys I’ve Ever Loved” franchise stars Lana Condor as Lara Jean Song Covey and Noah Centineo as her boyfriend, Peter. After you finish Lana and Peter’s love story, you can watch the Netflix series, “XO, Kitty,” which focuses on Lara’s excitable younger sister, Kitty (Anna Cathcart), and her messy dating life.
In a 2018 MTV News interview, Condor spoke about her on-screen chemistry with Centineo. She said she had a crush on Centineo and hoped he felt the same.
Love, Guaranteed
If you are tired of dating apps, you’ll relate to Nick (Damon Wayans Jr.) in the Netflix original, “Love, Guaranteed.”
Happiness for Beginners
After her divorce, Helen (Ellie Kemper) decides to go on a group expedition to hike the Appalachian Trail. While camping, Helen reconnects with her brother’s friend, Jake (Luke Grimes) who is harboring a secret or two.
