Aubrey Plaza’s Moving Tribute to Late Husband at SNL50

Aubrey Plaza made a moving tribute to her late husband Jeff Baena when she appeared at the “Saturday Night Live 50: The Anniversary Special.”

According to Page Six, the ‘White Lotus’ actress presented musical guests Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard while wearing “a black pantsuit with a tie-dye shirt.”

This was significant because Plaza and Baena were married “wearing tie-dye pajamas,” according to Page Six, which called the gesture “a tribute to her late husband.” The New York Post also reported that Plaza wore the shirt as a tribute to her late husband, who was a writer and director.

Plaza spoke about her wedding to Baena in 2021 on “the Drew Barrymore Show.”

“Jeff got really into tie-dyeing during the quarantine,” she told Barrymore in that interview. “I decided that Jeff and I were going to wear tie-dye pajamas that he had made for us.”

According to Page Six, Plaza’s appearance at the SNL anniversary show was her first public appearance since Baena died of suicide in January.

Plaza also spoke about the couple’s wedding on “The Ellen Show.” According to E! News, Plaza deactivated her Instagram page after her husband’s death.

According to E! News, she had sometimes posted about her husband on Instagram when the page was still active. “So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena,” Plaza wrote on Instagram in May 2021, “for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble,” E! News reported.

Plaza released a statement after Baena died, according to CBS News. “This is an unimaginable tragedy,” Plaza and Baena’s family said in the statement.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time,” the statement read.

Baena was only 47 years old when he died. According to CBS News, he was known for his work as a writer and director of independent movies, such as “Life After Beth” and “I Heart Huckabees,” sometimes alongside Plaza.

The Sundance Film Festival also remembered Baena at the time. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jeff Baena for sharing his stories and contributing to the lasting memories we’ve built together.Jeff, we’ll miss your wit, humor, and daring vision. Rest in peace, friend,” a statement posted by the Festival to its X page read.
