Ashanti is already thinking about Baby No. 2 after she and husband Nelly welcomed their first child together in July 2024 according to E! News.
“I am feeling amazing, incredibly pleased, humbled,” Ashanti told E! News. “My life has completely changed for the better. I feel full, you know? My cup is full.”
“We’re going to add some more,” she added. “Definitely a girl to balance it out. I’m outnumbered in the house right now. So, a girl would be great.”
In July 2024, Ashanti and Nelly welcomed a baby boy Kareem Kenkaide “KK” Haynes, who’s named after Ashanti’s father. A month after giving birth, Ashanti showed off her postpartum body in an Instagram post with a caption that read: “Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings! This is what postpartum looks like I’m loving these super cozy @fridamom shorts! I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, boy. 😆”
Ashanti And Nelly Praised Each Other For Being Awesome Parents
In November 2024, Nelly described Ashanti as “awesome mom” to Entertainment Tonight.
“It’s a laughable love, in a good way, because I just laugh. I just say, look at this baby. I can’t wait to show him some of the pictures and the videos, like ‘Look at what your mom is doing to you,’” he added. “She treats him like a Build-A-Bear. The boy is three months. Change his outfits in the house. He doesn’t leave the house. He changes outfits three times in the house.”
Meanwhile, Ashanti gave Nelly his props as a dad while sharing a cute story about how the rapper soothed their crying baby in the wee hours for the morning.
“So he was crying and I was like, ‘Ah, what do I do? Pacifier? Nurse again? I can’t walk around too much but I definitely was up walking around,” she told Entertainment Tonight in August 2021. “And daddy comes in, and he’s like, ‘Alright, give him to me.’ And I swear, he just starts singing. He sits down and he’s singing and he’s cradling him. And I’m just like, ‘I just tried everything, and daddy comes in singing and now he’s smiling and quiet?!’ But it was such an amazing and incredible feeling. I was a bit jealous in that moment.”
Ashanti And Nelly Rekindled Their Romance After Spending A Decade Apart

Ashanti and Nelly started dating in 2003 after meeting for the first time at a Grammy Awards press conference, where the “Hot In Herre” rapper asked Ashanti for her autograph. “That picture has been in so many publications as something else, but it all started out as a joke,” Ashanti said during a VH1 Behind the Music special, according to Us Weekly. “For the record, it took him a long time to get my number.”
The Grammy winners dated on and off for a decade before calling it quits in 2013. Then, in a strange twist of fate, they wound up back together a decade later.
In 2022, they performed their 2008 collaboration “Body on Me” at Power 98.3 and 96.1’s Under the Mistletoe concert, per Us Weekly. Four months later, the lovebirds were spotted holding hands at a boxing match in Las Vegas before hitting the red carpet together at the 3rd Annual Birthday Ball for Quality Control CEO Pierre “P” Thomas in June 2023.
In a 2024 interview with Essence, Ashanti not only confirmed that she and Nelly were expecting their first baby together, but that the two were engaged, even though they secretly tied the knot in December 2023.
