A well-kept secret is finally out of Santa’s bag! Beloved HGTV couple Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt are heading from their Tampa-area home to the White House to host the network’s annual Christmas special on December 15, 2024, at 6 p.m. Eastern time.
HGTV announced the news in a press release and on social media on December 10, revealing that the “100 Day Dream Home” stars will tour the extensive holiday displays with First Lady Jill Biden on “White House Christmas 2024.”
Brian & Mika Kleinschmidt Will Help Decorate Newly-Opened Room During ‘White House Christmas’
Each year, the White House holiday decor reflects a specific theme in each room and design choice. The theme for 2024 is “A Season of Peace and Light,” which required 300 volunteers from across the U.S. to pull together the theme and decorate 83 Christmas trees, including the 18.5-foot-tall official White House Christmas Tree in the Blue Room, per HGTV.
During the network’s hour-long special, the Kleinschmidts will get an up-close look at the decor, which includes 165,075 lights, 28,125 ornaments, 9,810 feet of ribbon, and 2,200 peace doves “suspended overhead” in the Cross Hall.
Alongside the First Lady, the Kleinschmidts will tour each decorated space in the White House, from a Gold Star Tree exhibit honoring fallen service members to a “stunning collection of bells adorning the East Colonnade.” They’ll also help decorate the Diplomatic Room, which is now open to the public for the first time.
HGTV said the Kleinschmidts will also be sure to check out the 2024 Gingerbread White House, which required 25 sheets of gingerbread dough, 50 pounds of royal icing, and 45 pounds of chocolate.
This is Brian & Mika Kleinschmidt’s First Time Hosting HGTV’s Annual White House Christmas Special
The 2024 special marks the Kleinschmidts’ first time hosting HGTV’s “White House Christmas,” which has been an annual tradition for the network for more than two decades.
In 2023, “Property Brothers” stars Drew and Jonathan Scott helmed the special. The year before, Jonathan Scott hosted it with his longtime love, actress Zooey Deschanel. In 2021 and 2022, former HGTV star Genevieve Gorder hosted the White House special.
During the pandemic in 2020, HGTV’s Alison Victoria narrated the special but didn’t appear at the White House. But she and “Brady Bunch” alum Maureen McCormick got to tour the premises for the 2019 show, and Victoria hosted the special on her own in 2017 and 2018.
Before that, in 2016, current “Married to Real Estate” star Egypt Sherrod hosted the “White House Christmas” special.
HGTV’s first White House Christmas special aired in 1998 with host Kitty Bartholomew, still available to view on Amazon Prime. In the early 2000s, the special was repeatedly hosted by “Decorating Cents” star Joan Steffend. Past White House Christmas specials are available to stream on Discovery+ and Max.
