Leslie Fhima Shares Surprising Reason She Wasn’t ‘The Golden Bachelorette’

Leslie Fhima had her heart broken during the debut season of “The Golden Bachelor” with Gerry Turner.

Many fans thought she was a shoo-in to become the first lead for “The Golden Bachelorette” spinoff. However, that opportunity went to Joan Vassos instead.

Fhima joined the December 11 episode of the “She’s All Bach” podcast to talk about her experiences and she was blunt about why she was not “The Golden Bachelorette.”

“I was never asked to be ‘The Golden Bachelorette,’” Fhima said.

Leslie Fhima Never Had the Chance to Say Yes

Fhima was asked during the “She’s All Bach” podcast when she was approached about being “The Golden Bachelorette,” if she was.

The podcast hosts asked if the discussion started after “The Golden Bachelor” finale, or later in the vetting process.

As soon as the podcast hosts started asking the question, Fhima immediately began shaking her head no. She also indicated production never approached her about the opportunity at all.

When asked why she thought she wasn’t considered, Fhima shared her thoughts.

“First of all, I’m divorced, and I don’t think they wanted a woman that was divorced. They wanted a woman that had lost their husband. That’s my feeling,” Fhima explained.

Not only was Fhima never approached about being “The Golden Bachelorette,” but she admitted she was fairly sure nobody else from Turner’s season of “The Golden Bachelor” was asked either.

Fhima noted that she noticed something telling when she started watching Vassos during her season as “The Golden Bachelorette.”

She realized that part of the intro package Vassos filmed was done during the winter. Vassos was filmed visiting her husband’s gravesite, and there was snow on the ground.

ABC did not announce Vassos as “The Golden Bachelorette” lead until May.

After picking up on that, Fhima explained, “I realized that [choosing Vassos] was already decided a really long time ago.”

She added, “I was waiting [to be asked], I kept waiting. I didn’t know” that production already planned on having Vassos as the lead.

As she talked about not being approached with the “Golden Bachelorette” opportunity, Fhima noted she got a lot of mean comments from viewers during “The Golden Bachelor.”

She explained a lot of the criticism was over the fact she had been divorced twice. People would comment that they didn’t think she could maintain a relationship.

Although Fhima was divorced twice, she shared an overview of her past. She said she married her high school sweetheart when she was 21. “I was way too young,” she noted.

The marriage didn’t last, but Fhima shared, “We’re good friends, we raised a great son together.”

Fhima’s second marriage was to the “love of my life,” she said. She didn’t want to get divorced and said, “That was the last thing I wanted in my life.”

Despite wanting to be a wife and mother, Fhima added, “It just didn’t work out for me, unfortunately.”

“It doesn’t mean I’m broken, doesn’t mean I don’t know how to keep a relationship together,” Fhima emphasized.
