Discover the story behind his rise, the making of his popular tracks, and what’s next for the rising artist.
Aka-Woody’s breakthrough moment came with his track “JENNY,” which he considers his most popular song to date. Created in October 2023, the song came to life after Aka-Woody wrote a chorus about being drunk and dealing with constant calls from his mother whenever he went out to party. Originally titled “Drank,” he sat on the song for a while until a productive studio session with his long-time collaborator, Maxii, who produces most of his work.
While Maxii was briefly away, Aka-Woody began recording, and by the time she returned, the track was complete. Maxii quickly transformed the beat, taking the song in a new direction. The final result was “JENNY,” named after a reference to the movie Jennifer’s Body in the lyrics. Aka-Woody didn’t give much thought to the title at the time but decided to go with it. Later, while attending a shoot, Aka-Woody kept replaying the song. As they drove back home, they passed a foggy field, and he suggested it as the perfect spot to shoot the music video. Maxii grabbed her camera, and they filmed the video on the same day they finished recording the track. The song was released as a surprise drop, perfectly capturing the spooky vibes of Halloween, with Aka-Woody incorporating it into his set at an upcoming show. The overwhelming response was instant, and “JENNY” became a fan favorite, helping Aka-Woody gain a new wave of listeners and solidify his place in the music scene.
After the success of “JENNY,” Aka-Woody focused on his next project: an album titled grls.n.xtc. Released on December 26th, 2024, the album marked a new chapter in his music journey. After the hype surrounding “JENNY,” Aka-Woody spent time reflecting on where he wanted his music to go next. With Maxii’s help, he began working on the album, aiming to create a unique vibe and sound that would be instantly recognizable to his growing fanbase. The process wasn’t without its challenges. It took about a year to complete, with several setbacks along the way. However, Aka-Woody embraced the journey and found the experience rewarding. He can now listen to the album as a cohesive body of work, reflecting his musical evolution and offering fans a deeper insight into his creative process.
Aka-Woody is already looking toward the future, with plans to release new solo music in May. Taking his time to carefully develop and refine his ideas, he intends to present a new project that builds off the momentum of grls.n.xtc. Although he hasn’t settled on official titles for the upcoming work, Aka-Woody is already piecing the music together, slowly shaping his next steps. He’s focused on pushing his sound forward and making sure his music remains genuine, true to who he is as an artist, and fully representative of his evolution. With a growing fanbase and an unwavering dedication to his craft, Aka-Woody’s future looks bright. As he continues to push boundaries and expand his musical horizons, fans can expect more of his authentic sound to take center stage in the months to come.
