By Vaishnav G EdappattuFrom Mug to Mike, a platform for bathroom singers in Bengaluru, was started by techie-turned-singer, music director and vocal coach Sunil Koshy with his wife, Archana Hallikeri. From Mug to Mike released an original music video, Music ka Silsila, in collaboration with Parikrma Humanity Foundation on June 22 to celebrate World Music Day this year.In keeping with their ethos, the music video too, features people from different walks of life as singers — a dentist, a retired bank officer, a school student, IT professional and others. Showcasing the idea of a hidden singer in all of us, the song was penned by Sahil Sultanpuri and directed by Sunil Koshy. The video also features students of Parikrma Humanity Foundation.“The concept of this music video is to showcase that everybody deserves a spotlight to sing and that every moment in life can be celebrated with music,” Sunil says. He and Archana founded From Mug to Mike (FMTM), in 2013 as a start-up that helped amateur singers polish their singing skills; they have trained over 15,000 people since inception.“We hold workshops for people passionate about singing, at schools and workplaces, among other venues. One such workshop was held at Parikrma Humanity Foundation, and coaching the students inspired me to approach them for this music video,” he says. While the students of Parikrma Humanity Foundation lead the chorus of ‘Music ka Silsila’, other members of FMTM in the video include, Siya Rakesh, Dr D Jai Ganesh, Nidhi Srivastava, BK Srinivas, Prabhudev B Metri and Neeraj Sethi, from different professions as well as Sunil himself.
