Lil Wayne has something brewing this week. The iconic rapper took to Instagram to reveal a special announcement on Feb. 6. “Y’all know I’m not gon’ be there this week,” referring to the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime LIX Show, before adding, “I guess there’s a seat to fill. Shoutout to New Orleans — but I’ve been working on something very special.” He concluded the clip by promising that, “I’ve got something exciting coming for you,” and added, “until then, I’m just chillin’.”

His admission that he won’t be at the Super Bowl follows him previously informing his friend Skip Bayless that he’ll be out of the country next Sunday, and therefore won’t be a guest at the halftime show that he sought to perform. As far back as 2023 he campaigned to be the halftime performer in his hometown and expressed disappointment when Kendrick Lamar was given the nod. He released a video noting that the pass-over “hurt a lot.” And at his Lil Weezyiana Fest, he expressed that he was “robbed” of the honor, though he’s since talked to Lamar, cleared up any misunderstandings, and encouraged his rap peer to “kill it.”

It’s unclear what his announcement could be, but he recently promised that his upcoming Carter 6 album will drop sometime this year. Could we learn when? We’ll know on Thursday.
