Sourabhee Debbarma : Singer, Performer and Entertainer
Overview
Sourabhee Debbarma is an Indian singer who was a contestant on the fourth series of Indian Idol, where she became the first female Indian Idol winner. But she is yet to get over the elation and shock she felt when her name was first announced. “Honestly, when they called my name, I got really confused. When I saw the picture in the frame, I was wondering if it was for the winner or runner up and my parents sitting in the audience also looked blank. When I realised, I started jumping and screaming. I still can’t believe I won,” she enthuses.
Early Life
Though her parents were government employees and had no clue about the music industry, they supported Sourabhee’s decision and encouraged her. She was born in the year 1985 in Agartala, Tripura, India. She had done her education from St Paul’s School, Agartala.Sourabhee has always been extremely interested in Music and when she was a student of ASMs College of Commerce Science and Information Technology CSIT she used to perform in various college events.
She is also the Guinness World Record holder for singing upside down non-stop for 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Her debut album titled ‘Meherbaan’ was nominated for the best popular music album in GIMA 2010(Global Indian Music Awards). She has performed in India and abroad in countries like Hong Kong, Nigeria, Durban, New York City, London, Kuwait, Bangladesh and Nepal.
She feels a sense of responsibility towards the region and plans to “do as much as possible” for her culture.
