Madhoo confesses her ‘arrogance’ post Roja strained her relationship with Mani Ratnam | – Times of India

Madhoo is largely known for her role in the 1992 film Roja, which was directed by Mani Ratnam. The film continues to be the best in Madhoo’s career so far but the actress recently confessed that she did not give enough credit to Ratnam for it.
She recently discussed her strained relationship with the director which was due to her ‘attitude’ post success. Madhoo expressed regret for not appreciating Ratnam properly in the past. Ian interview with Siddharth Kannan, when she was asked the reason behind not starring in any Mani Ratnam film beside Roja and Iruvar, she reflected on her attempts to connect with him, stating that she admired him greatly.
Despite her efforts to reach out to him and sending him messages, she felt a disconnect. In the past, she did not view Ratnam as a godfather figure or someone who had done her a favor by casting her in Roja. She believed that Ratnam simply found the right fit for the role and that was it.
She elaborated that her arrogance came from the place of pain, as nobody had supported her in her career. She claimed that everything, from her makeup to costumes, was done by her, there was an element of I and she refused to give credit to anyone. She also accepted that this attitude of hers would have annoyed people.
Madhoo further shared that Mani deserved all the credit and she should have told him at that time, but she gives him all the credit now. However, she also accepted that she didn’t make good bonds and that’s why she was not repeated in films.
