Priyamani recalls being approached for Rohit Shetty’s ‘Chennai Express’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone: ‘I thought it was a prank call’ | – Times of India


Priyamani has consistently expressed her admiration for Shah Rukh Khan and has never failed to commend her co-star in ‘Jawan.’ Their collaboration began with director Rohit Shetty‘s ‘Chennai Express,’ where Priyamani featured in the song ‘1 2 3 4 Get on the Dance Floor.’
However, the actress recently shared that when she got a call from Rohit Shetty’s office for the first time, she doubted its authenticity.Initially suspicious, she wondered why they would reach out to her. After agreeing to go to Mumbai, she verified the call with her manager, confirming its legitimacy.

Soon after, she found herself packing her bags and flying to Mumbai. Accompanied by her manager from Hyderabad, they met Rohit Shetty. He mentioned watching a Kannada song featuring her and Puneeth Rajkumar. Priyamani also noted Puneeth’s enjoyable company during their interactions.

Upon learning about her role in Chennai Express, Priyamani initially doubted why she was cast in a film featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. She expressed gratitude but requested Rohit Shetty not to relegate her to a background dancer role. However, Rohit assured her that the song would solely feature her and Shah Rukh Khan, prompting Priyamani to agree readily.

Priyamani recalled shooting the song ‘1 2 3 4 Get on the Dance Floor’ over five consecutive nights. She commended Shah Rukh Khan’s work ethic, noting his dedication despite his status. While she rested after shoots, Shah Rukh would stay back to rehearse with assistants, showcasing his unwavering commitment to cinema.

During the shoot for the song ‘Zinda Banda’ from Atlee Kumar’s Jawan, Priyamani recounted how Shah Rukh Khan displayed his considerate nature. Initially positioned far from him, Shah Rukh insisted she stand beside him, citing her role as his dance teacher since Chennai Express. Throughout the shoot, he sought her guidance for dance steps, emphasizing their camaraderie. Priyamani, last seen in Article 370, is now preparing for the release of her upcoming film Maidaan.
