500Raxx: “Fvcked Up”Back in 2021, 500Raxx had the L.A. meet-cute anthems on lock. Her tape, 500Summers2: Into the Sunset, was such an overload of flirty sing-rap melodies and G-funk-lite party rhythms that listening was all the motivation you needed to go shoot your shot. After a quiet 2024, the Watts-raised rapper-singer reworks that sound with “Fvcked Up,” a sunkissed pop instrumental that sounds like it could have been a Davido type beat a half-decade ago. That might have been a dated pivot if she weren’t such a sweet writer, dropping in all the details of a sloppy turn-up complete with body shots and drunken toasts. The lighthearted vibe resembles two of my most-played songs from last year: the messy kickback of SieteGang Yabbie’s “Team Spirit” and the raunchy romance of Baby Osama’s “Line Em Up.”With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.Check out previous Ones, and listen to new rap from 500Raxx more on our Spotify playlist.
