Yohan Marshall aka Yoda Drunk
Yohan Marshall, also known by his stage name Yoda Drunk, is a musician with a passion for blending different styles of music. Originally from Ahmedabad, he fell in love with music at a young age. He started by playing the drums and later learned to play the guitar. As he grew older, he began writing his own songs, exploring various genres, and experimenting with different sounds.
After moving to Bombay, Yohan’s musical journey took on new dimensions. He became involved with different bands and projects, each one allowing him to explore his creativity in unique ways. From fusion rock to alt-rock and pop, Yohan’s versatility as a musician became evident as he embraced diverse musical influences.
It was with his latest project, Yoda Drunk, that Yohan truly found his musical identity. Collaborating with producer Nirmit Shah and vocalist Ambika Nayak from the electronic duo Nothing Anonymous, Yohan began to explore the intersection of live instrumentation and electronic production. Together, they created a sound that defies categorization, blending elements of ambient, groove-heavy, and pop-oriented music.
One of Yohan’s recent releases, “Sweetheart,” exemplifies this fusion of styles. The song is characterized by its dreamy atmosphere, ethereal vocals, and captivating production. Lyrically, it explores themes of abandonment within relationships, offering a poignant reflection on love and loss.
Beyond creating music, Yohan is also passionate about using his art for good. Through initiatives like “Sweetheart for Saath,” he raises funds for organizations dedicated to suicide prevention. For Yohan, music is not just a form of self-expression but also a means of making a positive impact on the world.
The COVID-19 pandemic presented its own set of challenges, but Yohan found solace in his music. Returning to Ahmedabad to be with his family, he took the opportunity to reconnect with his roots and focus on his creative pursuits. He continued to teach music online and contribute to charitable causes, demonstrating his resilience and commitment to his craft.
Looking to the future, Yohan remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of his artistry. He is currently working on his EP titled “Maya, the Illusion,” and collaborating with dancers for upcoming music videos. He believes in the power of music to transcend barriers and connect people from all walks of life.
Yohan’s story is a testament to the transformative power of music. Through his eclectic blend of genres and unwavering commitment to social causes, he inspires others to embrace their creativity and use their talents for good.
