In a statement posted on Instagram, Mitchell’s family announced his demise, revealing that the actor’s battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease, also known as ALS. The family shared in their note that Despite the neurodegenerative condition, Mitchell displayed unwavering grace and commitment to embracing life to the fullest with his two children.
“Ken faced a series of awful challenges from ALS.And in truest Ken fashion, he managed to rise above each one with grace and commitment to living a full and joyous life in each moment,” the family’s statement read.
Born on November 24, 1974, in Toronto, Kenneth Mitchell gained prominence for his portrayals of various characters in the ‘Star Trek’ universe, including the Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik, as well as the character Aurellio in ‘Star Trek: Discovery’. His versatility extended beyond sci-fi, with notable appearances in productions such as ‘Captain Marvel’, the hockey drama ‘Miracle’, and television series like ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘NCIS’, and ‘Criminal Minds’.
Shortly after news broke about the actor’s demise, his ‘Star Trek’ family paid homage to his contributions, expressing deep sorrow over his passing. In a statement posted on its official website, the team honoured Mitchell’s legacy and wrote, “The entire Star Trek family sends their condolences to Mitchell’s family, friends, loved ones, and fans around the world.”
Kenneth is survived by his wife Susan May Pratt and their two children. According to reports, the family has requested any possible donations to be directed to ALS research projects.
