With ‘Laapataa Ladies’, Kiran Rao returned to the director’s chair after a gap of 12 years. The film had seen several ups and downs at the box office and expectations were that it would not survive after the release of films like ‘Article 370’ and ‘Shaitaan’, but that has not been the case.
On Friday, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ minted Rs 60 lakhs and on Saturday, it showed a massive jump of 50 percent to collect Rs 90 lakhs, as per Sacnilk.The overall box office collection of ‘Laapataa Ladies’ in nine days stands at Rs 7.55 crore.
The film stars new talents like Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, and experienced names like Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan. The makers had undertaken an extensive yet offbeat kind of promotional strategy for the film wherein ‘Laapataa Ladies’ was shown to college students and premiered in smaller cities before the release of the film. And even now, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ has been growing strong only through word of mouth publicity.
‘Laapataa Ladies’ was Aamir’s first production since the disaster of ‘Laal Singh Chadha’ and he now has multiple projects under his belt. He is backing his son Junaid’s film with Sai Pallavi, which is directed by Siddharth P Malhotra as well as Rajkumar Santoshi‘s ‘Lahore,1947’ which stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Rajkumar Santoshi.
