Actor-turned-director Randeep Hooda, who is gearing up for the release of Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, ”recalls working with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on ‘Sarbjit‘, revealing that he bonded more strongly with Sarabjit Singh‘s family.
In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Randeep said that he formed a close bond with Sarabjit’s sister, who was played in the film by Aishwarya Rai. The actor went on to say that despite everybody’s best efforts to make Aishwarya look plainer than she does in real life, they weren’t quite successful.
Randeep mentioned that she had been great, very courteous, and performed her role well. He noted that she was fully dedicated and sincere about her work. Although they didn’t have many interactions on set because most of his scenes were separate from hers, whenever they did interact, she lived up to her reputation.
About the bond that he developed with Sarabjit’s family, Randeep shared that during the movie’s production, he developed a stronger bond with Sarabjit’s sister than with Aishwarya. He expressed regret over her passing and recalled fulfilling her final wish to light her funeral pyre. He mentioned that he wished he had more time with her, as she was a remarkable woman who took good care of Sarabjit’s children, who are now well-settled. He also noted that the movie had a profound impact on real-life events.
For the Unverse, directed by Omung Kumar, Sarbjit is a 2016 biopic of Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted of terrorism and espionage in Pakistan. In the film, Randeep played the role of Dalbir Kaur‘s brother Sarabjit Singh, who strayed into Pakistan in 1990 in a drunk condition and was kept behind bars for 23 years with many serious allegations against him.
