Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could not believe their eyes when an exam paper from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Varanasi, featured a 10-mark question using a pivotal scene from the film as an example.
In a viral photo of the question paper doing the rounds online, students put their knowledge to the test to answer questions based on the epic fight between Captain America, played by Chris Evans, and the Mad Titan Thanos, played by Josh Brolin. In a cross-over, no one seemed to expect, students were asked the question: Let us consider this iconic scene where our beloved Captain America proves himself worthy enough to lift Thor’s hammer (the Mjolnir). He is fighting Thanos at one end and giving his best to save the world. Adopt the following scenario.Using the fight scene as an example, students had to find out ‘What is the stress at the handle of the hammer which has a diameter of 5/8 in?’
The other part of the question added, ‘Once the hammer hits Thanos, the hammerhead remains in the elastic zone while the handle moves to the plastic zone: Find out the strains for the hammer head and the handle.’
And still, another question asks the students to find out the ‘recovering strain and remaining plastic strain’ when Cap calls back the hammer after striking Thanos.
This blend of Hollywood action scenes and engineering principles has caught the attention of fans and students alike. While some fans joked about how they would have loved to take the exam themselves, others deemed this movie and academics crossover as their own ‘Multiverse of Madness’.
‘Avengers: Endgame’, directed by the Russo Brothers, featured some of the most memorable fight sequences in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Captain America’s showdown against Thanos being one of the standout moments.
