Alia Bhatt is making waves in the film industry with her upcoming action-thriller ‘Jigra‘, set to release on October 11, 2024. Directed by Vasan Bala, this film is not just another addition to her repertoire; it represents a significant shift in her career towards action-oriented roles.
In an interview with Tried & Refused Productions, Alia recently shared insights about her journey and the pivotal advice she received from renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli, which has profoundly influenced her choices in selecting the role.
The ‘Udta Punjab’ actor’s decision to delve into action films stems from a desire to challenge traditional gender roles in cinema. She articulated this sentiment, stating, “It’s cool ya to see a woman fight and really fight, and you do not really have to think that this is a woman fighting. It’s just a human being fighting for whatever x, y, z reason.” This perspective highlights her commitment to portraying strong female characters who resonate with audiences beyond their gender.
In ‘Jigra’, Alia plays Satya Anand, a character driven by the fierce determination to rescue her brother from dire circumstances. The film’s narrative revolves around themes of courage and emotional depth, which Alia found compelling. She explained, “What connected with me was its vigor and its emotion. And it’s not like I was in this film; I’ll do action and I’ll show people.” This approach underscores her belief that emotional stakes are as crucial as physical action in storytelling.
The advice from SS Rajamouli stands out as a cornerstone of Alia’s artistic philosophy. She recounted his words: “Rajamouli sir said this to me once: that action is maybe the pillars and the walls, but if the foundation of the building is not strong and that foundation is your emotion, the building will just collapse.” This insight has guided her choices in ‘Jigra’, where she aims to balance high-octane sequences with heartfelt moments.
As the trailer for ‘Jigra’ was released few days ago, fans went gaga over Alia Bhatt’s performance, which has received widespread acclaim. Filmmaker SS Rajamouli praised the trailer, emphasizing its emotional depth: “Alia never ceases to amaze us with her top-notch performances. Here she comes again with #Jigra. It looks like an intense and emotional ride!”
