On the second anniversary of actress Kirstie Alley’s death, New Kids on the Block member and HGTV star Jonathan Knight posted a heartfelt tribute to his dear friend.
Alley died at age 71 on December 5, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer, per People. Her death was devastating for Knight, who shared on Instagram at the time, “My heart is ripped into a million pieces, and half my soul has been taken away.”
Two years later — on the evening of December 5, 2024 — Knight, 56, shared a brief tribute to Kirstie in his Instagram Stories. Knight wrote his message over a painting of a heavenly scene, with rays of sunlight shining upon golden columns in the sky, and signed his note from the nickname Alley often used for him — Jonny Boy.
The “Farmhouse Fixer” star wrote, “Every day I miss you! Every day I cherish the big heart you had! Every day I’m thankful for our friendship! Every day I feel your presence in my heart! Xxoo Jonny Boy”
Jonathan Knight Has Shared Multiple Posts Honoring Kirstie Alley Since Her Death
Since Alley’s death, Knight has shared multiple memories of and tributes to his late friend, from posts on her birthday to photos from time they spent together over the years. Weeks after the “Cheers” star’s death, in early January 2023, Knight posted a black and white photo of them laughing together and captioned the image, “Just two crazy kids loving life!!!”
In April 2023, Knight shared a screenshot of a post that Alley had uploaded to social media, with a photo she took of Knight sound asleep in bed.
“Wanna know what Jonny boy looks like sleeping???” Alley wrote in the caption. “right before he kills me…@JonathanRKnight WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!”
Captioning his screenshot of Alley’s original post, Knight wrote, “The times I would visit and sleep till noon! 😂 Everyday you are on my mind and forever in my heart! The wind chimes from Maine are now hanging in my apple tree and daily I listen to you serenade me….Missing you so much!”
It’s Clear Jonathan Knight & Kirstie Alley Loved Spending Time Together
It’s not known when Knight and Alley first became friends, but they often shared social media posts documenting their adventures, whether they were together in-person — like an outing for “tea and pastries” in January 2020 — or sharing screenshots of their funny messages to each other.
In early 2012, the twosome posted several videos of themselves dancing as part of Alley’s 100 Days of Dance project to promote a healthy lifestyle. In another video, she was seen sweetly kissing Knight goodbye after attending an after-party for “Dancing With the Stars.”
On the day after Alley’s death, Knight posted a montage of videos and photos set to Seal’s “Kissed by a Rose,” including footage of them practicing dance moves in a living room.
“Can’t wait to dance with you again in our after life,” Knight wrote over the video. “Rest in peace my love!”
