Singer-songwriter Tanmaya Bhatnagar brings warmth and vibrancy on her new Hindi song “Kinaare,” the first release from the New Delhi-origin, Germany-based artist since mid-2023. Bhatnagar’s latest track also introduces her upcoming debut Hindi EP Phoolon Sa Dil, slated to release in May 2025.

Produced, composed and written jointly with artist Dhruv Bhola (from alternative act Peter Cat Recording Co.), “Kinaare” is described by Bhatnagar as “fresh and exciting” for her, citing inspirations such as indie acts Clairo and Beabadoobee. She says in a statement, “I wanted to make something fun and light-hearted. A love song that could also be a groove. The energy of ‘Kinaare’ is so different from what I’ve done before — it was refreshing to explore a pop-driven sound while still being emotionally honest.”

The song follows Bhatnagar’s 2023 single “Izhaar.” While the outstandingly openhearted EP Wherever I Go, I’d Like To Be All I Need from 2021 was her first collection of songs, Phoolon Sa Dil – which also has production from bassist Amar Pandey (from Prateek Kuhad, Zokova, NokNok and others) – is her debut Hindi EP. Bhatnagar says, “Each song on Phoolon Sa Dil is an emotional snapshot of different parts of my life.”

“Kinaare,” for its part with its delightful chorus “tararararara tere jesa… koi nahi,” explores the “excitement of falling in love” according to the artist. The creation of the five-track EP took place even as she found out she was pregnant, gave birth and was back to songwriting three weeks postpartum.

She says, “Creating this EP during my pregnancy and new motherhood gave me a unique perspective on my songs. It became a beautiful form of expression for everything I was feeling — about love, about change, and about the beauty of life.”

There are stories of womanhood, motherhood and personal growth, including a tribute to her mother on “Supriya” and one for her daughter on “Noor.” The EP closes with “Zindagi,” which Bhatnagar says is about “finding hope in the chaos.” She adds, “This EP tells the story of who I am right now. It’s an honest look at the ups and downs we all experience.”

Releasing her upcoming EP independently after working with labels like DayOne, “Kinaare” features backing vocals and vocal arrangement by Bhatnagar, Bhola and New Delhi-based singer-songwriter Swati Bhatt. It is mixed and mastered by sound engineer Krishna Rao and features artwork by Bhatnagar’s husband, Jonas Bartholomay.
