Hopeless romantics are waiting on the edge of their seats for the return of Netflix series “Nobody Wants This,” starring Kristen Bell as Joanne and Adam Brody as Noah. And while we still don’t know when that day will come, we do know a little bit more about what to expect from season two.
“Nobody Wants This” Season Two Starts Filming March 3
Netflix announced the show’s renewal for a second season back in October 2024, delighting fans of the show.
And filming will start soon! Jackie Tohn, who plays Adam Brody’s character Noah’s sister-in-law Ester, told Deadline that filming for season 2 is set to start on March 3. She described the whole experience as “a whirlwind.”
“It sort of feels like we haven’t stopped since season one. Because we came out and then we were doing press,” Tohn said. “Then we were sort of thrust right into awards season, which was sort of insane that we were even included in that conversation. And now, we’re starting season 2 already.”
What Tohn would not reveal are any plot points for the new season. “Well you know I can’t tell,” she laughed. “I haven’t read anything yet, but I’ve got into the writers’ room. We’ve talked about my character arc, and that’s all really exciting. I love her, I love it. So, stay tuned, it’s gonna be really exciting.”
By the way, while Tohn and star Kristen Bell are often at odds in the series, they are actually best friends in real life.
What We Know About Season Two So Far
Netflix hasn’t released an official synopsis for “Nobody Wants This” season 2 yet. But star Adam Brody says he wants to see where Noah and Joanne’s relationship is headed.
“I think that’s what the show can explore,” the actor told Netflix’s Tudum. “What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It’s a sacrifice, but ideally, you grow together and you’re better for it. You don’t have to [lop] off a limb.”
We also know season two will be something of a family affair. Brody’s real-life wife, Leighton Meester, will guest-star. Meester will play “Abby,” Joanne’s middle school nemesis, who’s become an “Instagram mommy influencer,” according to “Variety.”
Also joining the cast is Bottoms star Miles Fowler. He’ll play Lenny, Noah’s “Matzah Ballers” basketball teammate. The couple sets Lenny up with Joanne’s sister, Morgan.
In addition to Brody and Bell, the rest of the “Nobody Wants This” primary cast is set to return. Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons will reprise their roles as Bell and Brody’s siblings Morgan and Sasha, respectively. In addition to Jackie Tohn returning as Esther, Sherry Cola is back as Bell’s podcast producer Ashley.
Tovah Feldshuh and Paul Ben-Victor will return as Noah’s parents, Bina and Ilan. Stephanie Faracy and Michael Hitchcock will continue to play Joanne’s parents, Henry and Lynne.
“Nobody Wants This” Is Based On a True Story
“Nobody Wants This” is actually based on show creator Erin Foster’s real-life love story with her husband, Simon Tikham. The series follows single rabbi Noah and agnostic podcaster Joanne as they navigate their relationship despite major cultural differences.
Erin Foster, who is the daughter of music legend David Foster, first met husband Simon at a Los Angeles gym in 2018. The couple dated for a year before getting married on New Year’s Eve in 2019. Prior to their wedding, Erin converted to Judaism for music executive Simon, who is Jewish.
Like Joanne, Erin has a podcast with her sister Sara Foster. In The World’s First Podcast, Erin says, “Simon and Judaism, they both represented family to me. It wasn’t something I did because Simon [wanted] me to do it. It’s something I did because it really felt like the right way to start a life together.”
The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Noa Mimi Tikham, in May 2024.
