Former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Nikki Garcia returned to her podcast for the first time since late August. As TMZ reported on August 29, authorities booked Garcia’s now ex-husband, DWTS pro Artem Chigvintsev, in jail in Napa County, California.
According to TMZ, authorities told the media outlet they responded to a domestic violence call made from the home ahead of Chigvintsev’s arrest.
On November 20, TMZ reported that Garcia and Chigvintsev had worked via mediation to agree on terms for a divorce.
Garcia joined her twin sister, Brie Garcia, for the December 2 podcast episode of “The Nikki & Brie Show.” This was the first episode she had done since Chigvintsev’s arrest, and she spoke about the complicated situation for the first time.
“It’s been so heartbreaking. And I didn’t know that your heart can break that many times,” Garcia revealed.
Nikki Garcia Is Focused on Protecting Her Son Matteo
Garcia began her podcast return by sharing that it felt weird being back and added that she had missed everybody.
Before sharing anything more, she noted, “First things first, I’m a mom and my son’s protection and privacy is the most important” thing to her.
She explained stepped away from social media and the Internet after the August 29 incident. Garcia said she focused on doing whatever she could to protect herself and her son and keep everything as private as possible.
Garcia also knew she needed “Space for healing, for facing trauma head-on, all of that.” She admitted it’s all been tough.
“You know, you dream of having this family and you have this incredible love and it just goes the other way. And you go from having a great love story to having a terrible one,” Garcia shared.
The DWTS Alum Never Expected 2024 to Play out This Way
She admitted she “Never saw any of it coming, as far as what the ending would be.” Garcia admitted she’s been struggling through sadness and heartbreak.
Garcia also noted it’s been “shocking” and “heartbreaking” to see all of the stories about the situation in the press.
Trying to reconcile everything that happened with the life she thought she had has been especially challenging, she noted.
“You sit there and you go, I shared my life with this person. I thought it was so different,” Garcia shared.
She continued, “And just to see what someone can do. You know, we have a, we’re a family. Like, no matter what, at the end of the day, even when two people divorce, if you have children, you’re still a family. And your child should always be first.”
“You couldn’t have told me how the ending of my 2024 would have been. I would have thought you were crazy,” Garcia admitted. She added, “When you know the truth, nothing else matters.”
Garcia’s were thrilled to see her back on the podcast.
“Her eyes say it all, she’s struggling. I hope you’re taking care of your mental health Nikki – we love you and are glad you’re back,” one fan wrote on the show’s Instagram page.
Another fan commented, “We are all super proud of you for handling the situation with love. @nikkigarcia you are one of the strongest women I know!”
“Absolutely love her and so proud of how she is handling everything with light and love,” added someone else.
