“The Voice” coach John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen are navigating a heartbreaking loss. One of the family’s dogs, Penny, just died and the special pup held a very special place in their hearts.
Chrissy Teigen & John Legend Wed Was Also the Day Penny Was Born
On January 25, Teigen posted a few photos of the pup on her Instagram page. She also included a touching caption. “Our beautiful little tripod queen, penny, passed on peacefully in her sleep today,” Teigen wrote.
She continued, “Born the same day John and I got married, 11 years ago, she was there for us for every baby, every loss, every joy. She loved nothing more than being loved, having her nub rubbed and destroying any ball she could get her paw on, even til her last weeks.”
Teigen also wrote, “Never forget that while every pup is just a few chapters in your long life, for them you are their entire book, their entire lives.” She noted they were “beyond lucky” to have her, and told her to “Say hi to Puddy and Pippa for us. You are all together again.”
Legend commented on Teigen’s post, “I loved this girl. We will miss you, Penny.” He also shared a photo showing him with Penny in his Instagram Stories.
Penny Had ‘3 Legs & a Giant Heart’
The Kismet brand’s Instagram page also posted a sweet post about Penny’s death. Teigen and Legend founded the Kismet brand of dog food and the website features Penny and the family’s other pups.
“@chrissyteigen and @johnlegend’s beloved rescue with three legs and a giant heart passed away peacefully this weekend at their home,” the caption began.
“John scooped her up from #portroyalvet / Noah’s Arks Rescue during his ‘All of Me’ tour after Chrissy found her online. Penny has been by their sides through the highs and the lows for over 11 years,” the caption continued.
The Kismet caption noted that Penny was “at every big party but also the first to curl up for bedtime snuggles. How she found her way into their lives was nothing short of kismet, and she’s served as an inspiration to us ever since.”
Both Instagram posts contained numerous photos showing Penny with Teigen, Legend, and their kids over the years.
“Selling Sunset” star Chrishell Stause commented on Teigen’s post, “Aww I’m so sorry❤️🩹 what a beautiful life she had. 🙏🏼”
Brooklyn Decker added, “Oh Penny. I absolutely hate to hear this. She left her mark. Sending you all so much love. 🌈💔”
