Tamara Al-Gabbani is a Dubai fashion designer, vibrant TV personality, actress, entrepreneur and humanitarian. She was the face of DKNY and Dolce & Gabbana for their modest collections and was also featured in Magrabi‘s summer 2018 fashion campaign celebrating female empowerment in the Middle East.
Although she was University educated in London, United Kingdom, she grew up in Dubai and returned home after graduating, where she decided to start her career. Her first introduction to the world, came in the role of television presenter for a popular broadcast station in Dubai which lead to her role as the host of Dubai International Film Festival‘s television show, which focused on coverage of the first ever ‘special’ (in-depth coverage) film festivals throughout the United Arab Emirates. As the ‘face’ of Dubai’s International Film Festival TV show, she also hosted many other key attractions in Dubai’s social calendar. She was labelled the ”UAE’s gem of a talent” and did compiling interviews with the likes of George Clooney, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Paulo Coelho, Steve Hickner and many more international celebrities.
But when Al-Gabbani decided that she no longer wanted to be in the public eye she decided to let her ‘fashion brand take the forefront.’ She founded the Dubai’s popular fashion brand ‘House of Glamo’ and her own glamorous line ‘Tamara Al Gabbani’ in 2011. Her main collections are of evening gowns, jalabiyas, and abayas. Her collection was launched at Burj Khalifa and is sold at Village Mall and The Dubai Mall. She was awarded Best Dressed at Cannes Film Festival in her own designs which was the first time for an Arab woman. She is also a brand ambassador for Jaipur Gems.
In February 2018 she debuted a collection at the Best of Global Modest Fashion show during London Modest Fashion Week.Featured on the cover of magazines in the Middle East, and written about in international magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and Glamour, she is also featured on blogs, and interviewed on TV shows, Tamara is considered one of the Middle East’s top personalities and trendsetters.
Tamara Al Gabbani was already pretty influential before the modern term of an ‘influencer’ was even coined. She prides herself on being self-made and is an avid voice for female strength and empowerment, in which she shares to the world, through her design of clothes. Her background as an influencer also allows Gabbani to continuously be inspired by all the fashion she’s surrounded by. Tamara’s pride for being Saudi is one that never falters. When it was announced that women would soon be able to drive, she designed an exclusive piece for all her fellow Saudi chicas- complete with a discount code. Tamara often shares wisdom on her platform by encouraging women to help other women, something she self-practices.
Combining a unique creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit, Tamara launched The Tamara Al Gabbani brand. A stunning collection of Goddess inspired evening gowns, jalabiyas and abayas. The line is exclusive, high quality and elegant. She launched her collection at Burj Khalifa and sold the entire collection before it had even been viewed. 3 days later, she was walking on Cannes Film Festival’s red carpet, and was awarded Best Dressed at Cannes Film Festival in her own designs, a first for a woman of the Arab region.
The graceful example of a modern, popular and cherished Arab woman has much in store. ‘Whats next you ask?’ Tamara Al Gabbani coyly states, ‘I havent even begun’.
