Hulvey, is an American Christian hip hop recording artist, songwriter, and music producer. Born Christopher Michael Hulvey in Georgia, U.S., went from dropping out of college, scrubbing toilets at Publix, to becoming Reach Records latest breakout hip hop artist.
Brunswick is a long way from the active rap scene in Atlanta, but Hulvey thought growing up here was probably a good thing. It was in Brunswick that he learned how to record and produce his own music, and while it wasn’t to par with what you’d get from professional sound engineers, it got him to where he is now.He continued to pursue his dream of becoming a professional rapper through college, eventually dropping out in his sophomore year to give it his undivided attention.
His first release with the label was an EP titled Prelude then a month later he followed up with another EP titled BRKNHRT, which immediately garnered him national praise. In addition to his solo work,Hulvey was featured on two songs (“Restored” and “Celebrate More”) from Lecrae‘s album Restoration and also received writing credits for two additional songs on the album (“Set Me Free” and “Over the Top”). Hulvey was also featured on the 116 Clique song “Live Forever (which recently passed 1 million views on YouTube and on Jordan Feliz’s song “Glorify” alongside his labelmate Lecrae.Lastly, Hulvey was the opening act during the Social Club Misfits tour in early 2020.
In under a year, the music videos for Hulvey’s songs “Everything,” with 8.5 lakh views “Higher”, 6.5 lakh views “Cold Water”, with 5.9 lakh and the “Underdog Freestyle” with 4 lakh views on YouTube.His other music videos include “otherside” with was released on his YouTube channel 10months ago,”can’t tell it all” released 4 months ago and already reached 6.3lakh views.Hulvey released “reasons” featuring Grammy Award-winning rapper Lecrae and pop sensation SVRCINA,which have 17lakh views on YouTube.
The song communicates the authentic fears the Brunswick native felt about losing his grandfather, life after death and thoughts of eternity. The chorus, performed by SVRCINA, reminds listeners there are many reasons for people to keep on moving forward and to not give up. Lecrae jumps in on a verse communicating about the trials life throws at us from death, loss and trauma but we can find hope in Christ to push through. Hulvey’s priorities have evolved since the dregs of his minimum-wage day job. In between honing his craft as a musician and helping to launch a church in his free time with City of Refuge ATL, a non profit helping families in crisis throughout Atlanta’s westside, there’s not as much time to dwell on temporal success.
